2008 has been an exciting year and new relationships have been forged with CMR, RB Productions and Gator’s Grip. I look forward to strengthening those ties in 2009. A very special mention should be made of Frank Morgan and ModelArt Australia; Frank has steadfastly supported Red Roo in every edition of the magazine and has always had kind word and a smile when it was most needed. I oversaw the up-date of the website to incorporate a fully secure encrypted shopping cart with a dedicated certified secure data server. Late in the year I was able to introduce International Registered post to selected countries following the return of this postage class from Australia Post. Despite the miserable world economic situation at the moment I have been able to curtail price increases on some lines and introduce new products at moderate prices, but, unfortunately this is wholly due to the state of the Oz Dollar and there may well yet be some sudden and un-expected increases in 2009.

I can not let this chance pass without saying a big thank you to the many Red Roo associates who work ceaselessly behind the 'store front'. Special thanks are due to Dick Hourigan, Dave Muir, David Clark, Ed Russell, Steve MacKenzie, Greg Anderson, Tony O’Connor, Fred Harris, David Harvey and last but not least, Peter Malone. All of these blokes put in heaps of hours helping to keep things in line and the ideas morphing from the paper into new products for modellers who share an interest in things Australian. Extra special thanks go to Mitzi Pudelle II, our multi-function warehouse supervisor and security adviser, who has tirelessly supported every activity undertaken.

Likewise, if you have any ideas or suggestions for decals, books or resin, I would like to hear about them, so please drop me a line. Next year there is an exciting and interesting release programme planned. The Away Team decal series will continue with some gob-smacking subjects lined up for production. Several new and exciting books will be released in 2009 (yes, I know you have all been patiently waiting for The Epistle and it really is getting closer, so please hang in there because the wait will be worth it) along with a lot of new resin, including the first Red Roo model kit! More details as the release date gets closer.

Holiday Break Dept – Red Roo Models will be closed for a very short period over the Christmas/New Year period. I will close at 1700 hr on 22 December 2008 and re-open at 0900 hr on Monday 5 January 2009. The website will be operating as normal but please note that orders will not be processed until 5 January 2009.

On the Road Again Dept – Red Roo Models will be attending the ACT Scale Model Expo in Canberra in May next year. As well we will be returning to the Melbourne Model Expo in 2009 at the Sandown Convention Centre and later in the year we will be attending the 2009 SA Model Expo.

Holiday Cheer Dept – Well, it’s almost the end of another year and the Holiday Season is almost with us again. I would like to take the time to thank all the many customers who have supported Red Roo in 2008. Without your interest and purchases there would be no Red Roo. Throughout the year you have stuck with us, put up with delays and problems that have arisen periodically and continued to buy our products. I would like to say a special thank you to the many customers who sent messages wishing me a speedy recovery following a short period in hospital for some surgery at the beginning of 2008. My recovery has been a little slower than expected but so far has been complete and all clear, and I intend to keep it that way! To all the many customers, associates, friends, modellers and their families who supported Red Roo in 2008 I would like to offer my sincere and deepest wishes for a wonderful, happy and safe Holiday Season. May 2009 bring you continued good health, and of course, heaps of new plastic!

I'm pleased to announce that several new products go on sale today. These are the very neat Flip-R5 and Flip-R10 Photo-Etch Bending Tools from RB Productions. Easy to use and available in two widths the folding tools are really essential items in the modeller's toolbox. Additionally other RB Production tools that are now retailed by Red Roo Models include the Rivet-R Riveting Tool which is supplied with four rivet cutting wheels and fits a standard hobby/craft knife handle. As well, the holder is also available separately (great to have a spare), as are two extra wheels of different pitch. The prices are quite reasonable and further details can be viewed here.

Recently we attended the SA Scale Model Expo where together with CMR we sponsor a number of awards. The Best CMR Model in Show is sponsored jointly with CMR. Red Roo also sponsors and Encouragement Award and a Masters Award. The best CMR model is open to all modellers who enter a CMR kit. The ecouragement award is open to all modellers who enter a model of an Australian subject and the Masters Award is open to all modellers who enter a model that uses a Red Roo resin and decal product.

The innaugural winner of the Best CMR Model in Show was Ed Russell with his PR Spitfire (shown below).

The Encouragement Award was won by Jown Coverley with his excellent RAAF Iroquois helicopter.

The Masters Award was won by Robert Haggar with his excellent RAAF Boston.

All in all the Adelaide show was excellent, with a large contingent of Victorian modellers who made serious inroads into the local pot hunter's collections! The Victorians had even built one of their winning entires on the run - as they drove over from Melbourne! I hope that's a story that gets published in ModelArt Australia.

We had an excellent time cathcing up with many friends and customers in Adelaide and look forward to visiting again in 2009.

Admin Dept:

Astute customers will have noticed the introduction of our new look custom designed secure shopping cart which recently went live. Customers can now check our credentials by clicking on the security certificate button to view our certificate. Customers will also note the simplified layout of the new shopping cart which will make it easier to use. Please note that as usual postage charges are estimated and you will only be charged the exact amount that Australia Post charges us. Also note that we have introduced a flat packaging and handling fee of $2.50 - this is to cover all of our packaging costs and incorporates a small charge to help offset the cost of bubble wrap and beading and transport to the Post Office. We are now also able to offer International Registered Air Mail Post as Australia Post has re-introduced this class of mail, albeit to a limited number of countries. We can also ship via FedEx if you require it. Please check with us before placing your order as we will have to obtain a quote for you. Be aware that shipping with a courier out of Australia is not comparable with using a courier in the USA, for example, due to geographical, currency and population variations.

I have just finished unpacking the shop after returning from the SA Model Expo in Adelaide.

All orders are being processed in their order of receipt. I hope to have the backlog cleared by Friday of this week, so please be patient while I sort out the stuff and get them in the post to you as quickly as I can.

Let me state again; I'm sure we all realise the Aussie dollar is taking a totally unjustified pounding on the international money market and being devalued against currencies from a host of countries whose economies are total basket cases. The flow-on effect will result in some pretty volatile price increases in some of the products I source from overseas. The new shipment of EZ-Line is on sale at considerably higher prices that what was previously being charged - and there is nothing I can do about it. Consequently, customers should be prepared for price increases on some items at very short notice and the disappearance of other products as they simply become cost prohibitive for me to carry. In the meantime, I will try to deliver the home brand products at reasonable prices as best I can. Don't be too distressed as there is still a great release programme sketched out for Red Roo products for the next 12 months that should help put a smile back on our faces!

Red Roo Models will be closed from 22 Oct 08 to 27 Oct 08 inclusive because I am attending the South Australian Model Expo over the weekend of 25-26 Oct 08. Please note that the website will function as normal but no orders will be processed until I return from Adelaide re-open for business on 28 Oct 08. Periodically I have shows around the country to attend and I just can't be in two places at once. Please be patient and I will deal with any backlog on my return.

As I will be attending the South Australian Model Expo in Adelaide, together with Dick Hourigan and Ed Russell we all look forward to seeing all Adelaide based modellers at what promises to be a great weekend. This year marks the introduction of a new trophy, sponsored by Red Roo Models and CMR, for the Best CMR Model of Show. So, all you South Australian modellers, get those lovingly crafter CMR models out and enter them in this year's SA Model Expo!

Finally, as I'm sure we all realise the Aussie dollar is taking a totally unjustified pounding on the international money market and being devalued against currencies from a host of countries whose economies are total basket cases. The flow-on effect will result in some pretty volatile price increases in some of the products I source from overseas. For example, I've just seen large increase in the cost of the popular swizzle stick sanders (up by $7). The next shipment of EZ-Line will go on sale at considerably higher prices that what is currently being charged - and there is nothing I can do about it. Consequently, customers should be prepared for price increases on some items at very short notice and the disappearance of other products as they simply become cost prohibitive for me to carry. In the meantime, I will try to deliver the home brand products at reasonable prices as best I can. A new decal sheet in the Away Team series, covering 457 Squadron RAAF in the UK during 1941-42, is released today. This exciting new decal sheet is available in both 1/48 and 1/72 scale and features four aircraft. The subjects include Spitfire MkI, MkII and MkVb aircraft. Our first shipment of the excellent Gator's Grip Acrylic Hobby Glue has arrived. A great alternative to super glue for attaching PE brass and the like. Won't fog or discolour, easy clean up.Gator's Hobby Glue is non-toxic, non-yellowing, transparent acrylic polymer adhesive. It instantly grabs hold of the photo etch and gives a strong, flexible bond when dry. Once cured, Gator's Hobby Glue holds up well to both acrylic and enamel paints. GATOR GLUE DOES FREEZE! Great news today! I am proud to announce that Red Roo Models has been appointed at a re-seller for Ultracast 1/48 scale aircraft accessories. This outstanding range of resin castings has made a big impact on the world modelling scene for some time now and the Canadian manufacturer has an outstanding reputation for high quality. Check out the range here.

There are simply way too many Ultracast products to display on the website so please just send me an email requesting a PDF copy of the full list of accessories available. Alternatively, you can incorporate a request for a complete Red Roo Models Price List with your order by clicking on the new product icon on the Books page. Remember, the price list only costs $2 - just to cover printing costs.

The new CMR Short C Class Flying Boat in 1/72 scale from CMR has arrived and landed safely! This amazing kit features a choice of eight different colour schemes of British Empire Airways, BOAC and Qantas. Included with the kit are decals, coloured PE nickel parts, detailed instructions and some down right outstanding resin castings! Check out the details here.

Please note that I am only selling this kit within Australia at this time as I feel it should be shipped as Registered Post (signature required) and there is no comparable Australia Post service available for international destinations and Australia Post international courier services are prohibitively expensive.

Just arrived - our second scale rule, which reatures 1/32 and 1/24 scale graduations. Designed for those who like to think and work big - easy to read and flexible. Makes a worthy companion to Rule Number One. Take a look here.

Also arrived today is our new wire bending jig. This brightly coloured acrylic jig is easy to use and takes the stress out of bending grab handles for canopy frames, hatches and the like. Graduated in thousandths on an inch. Take a look here.

The next in our series of decal sheets, "The Away Team - Part Two: 457 SQN RAAF" in the UK will be available soon - so check back soon. I estimate that the sheets will be released about mid August.

Associate Ricard Hourigan won a gong in the small scale modified section at the recent Scale Act '08 expo held in Canberra over the last weekend in May. Richard used the Red Roo Aussie Warbirds 1/72 Scale VH-AUB decal sheet for his model. I thought you might like to see the model, so here it is.

This decal sheet is available in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale and the instruction sheet features full details on the modifications required tobe made to the recipient Mustang kit. Full details on the decals appear on the decal page - where else!

I have been advised by the Australian distributor for Harder and Steenbeck airbrushes that there have been attempts made by individuals to obtain warranty and service support from the Australian distributor for H&S products purchased outside Australia. Therefore, the Australian distributor has advised me that such service and support extends only to units purchased in Australia and that as of today I am required to verify purchase from Red Roo Models when submitting any units for warranty claims or service support. Proof of purchase from Red Roo Models will be required in order to be certfied when returning equipment to the distributor.
